The following terms are used in mediation or in the Settle Today process:

Pending — This is the initial case state upon creation. It means the case is created, but has not started because no other party has yet responded to a case invitation.

Progressing — This is only possible in a case with 3 or more parties. This state indicates that one or more (but not all) parties have responded to their invitation. Since all parties have not yet responded, the case has not yet started.

Timed Out — This indicates none of the invited parties responded before the case timed out. The initiator's money is refunded and the mediation process is automatically cancelled. Invited parties have 7 days to respond before the case times out.

Rejected — Either all parties have rejected the mediation offer or the case has timed out with at least one party rejecting the invitation. The initiator's money is refunded and the process is automatically cancelled.

Initiator Rebuttal — Your case has been accepted by at least one opposing party and the process has now begun. It is time for the initiator to review the information entered by the responding parties and enter their rebuttal to this information.

Respondent Rebuttal — The initiator has now given their rebuttal and it is time for the respondents to review all information entered by the initiator and enter their rebuttal. Once all respondents have completed this step, the case will continue.

Final Initiator Rebuttal — All respondents have entered their rebuttals and initiator can now enter a final rebuttal.

Final Remarks — All rebuttals have now been given. All parties now have a chance to enter final information before the case is submitted for review. When all parties have entered this information the case will continue.

Review — All final remarks have been submitted and the case has been presented to the resolution facilitator for review. The resolution facilitator will issue a legally binding settlement within 24 hours.

Settled — Your case is complete and the resolution facilitator has issued a decision in the form of a PDF document. This document can be downloaded from the case information page.
